Good books
Hello, everybody.
If anybody of you learns filmmaking in universities or works in professional filmmaking companies, give me, please, titles of best (!) tutorials in movie directing, editing, and screenwriting.
I'm not in USA now and can't buy such books in shops. I've seen many such books in american e-shops, but I can't buy all of them. :)
Thanks.

Hey there, I'm new to the community. A friend and I are planning on putting on "Seussical" sometime in late May - has anyone had any experience with this show? I guess what I'm mostly asking is, does anyone have any suggestions for designing a plausible AND functional "vortex"-like thing to be planted up center? Basically, the Cat in The Hat, who appears in almost every scene (more to serve continuity purposes than anything else), appears out of (or through) the vortex everytime he comes on stage. I've been racking my brain to figure out an affordable and largely simple way to build this sort of beast. But having any sort of basic idea would be nice.

Ugh, well, any any any help at all would be greatly appreciated on this very important matter.

After a loooooooong time
Wow. I am a total idiot. I forgot to add this community to my list.
Well, hi, all.

Recently, the whole thought of film festivals have come to mind. Now, being a college student, I withdrew from the Ohio University Film Festival becasue it... well... costed money. Does that mean I suck? I don't know. After so long, I don't put my material out there. Maybe I don't know how to sell myself.
Does distance matter with festivals? Travel time? Or do you just do it and leave everything to fate?

Hi...I'm new here....
But I'm doing some research on Tartuffe...I'd like to set in in modernday (location non specific) I have no desire to change the script but changing the time could have some unwanted implications (the mention of the kng at the end) that might jeperdize the intergrity of the scrpit.

I am only doing a scene from it...possibly the table scene. You're thoughts on this would be gretl appreciated.

Help
Hi,

I'm a second year theatre/media student @ Charles Sturt University, Bathurst in NSW, Australia. I directed Sondheim's "A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM" earlier this year and am looking for a new piece to direct as my 3rd year major work.

What I'm after is a comedu (which has some singing, or is open to having songs put in) that's comic, entertaining and good for a young crowd. Something to keep them in stitches, whilst being visually catchy. I'm not really after anything well-known (like Fame, Lil Shop, Oliver, etc..) but preferably a play written by an "unknown" (bad term, sorry). Any suggestions? Anyone written a good play? Or even a big play that hasn't been done much.

Has anyone here ever directed an original musical? Care to share what it was.

Add me as a friend and discuss if you can help me at all.

Thanks, Brendan

Heres a little screenplay i wrote. Ignore the lack of formatting. Please comment on this, i would love opinions...

EXT--day----city
Shots of a city and different aspects of life...

NARRATOR
Hello, my name is society. I thrive when you gain, i suffer when you ignore.
Amist all the commotion, i seem to be forgotten. I am the majority, the minority
and the mediocrity. I am not god, they are the gods. Our story begins with Joseph

ext. day---a street
A young boy is walking home after a seeminly normal day. His expression is solem, his footsteps determined.
Joseph walks into his room, and quickly stands on chair.

the chair his kicked and joseph hangs..

NARRATOR
and so Joseph is no more. I am moving on, society is moving on.

cut to:

ext--day---
A young girl is riding her bike down the street.

NARRATOR
This is Trina. Tina enjoys riding her bicycle.

Tina walking to a convenience store and buys a pack of gum

NARRATOR
but what was Tina doing an hour ago.

A quick shot of someone snorting cocaine.

NARRATOR
I am going to shun her. She has done wrong. Tina has gone against
that which is expected of her. She has lost her trail.

Tina walks into josephs house. She sees him hanging their, lifeless.
Her expression is that of defeat, not remorse.

NARRATOR
She knew that noose wasnt strong enough to hold them both.

Trina calls for josephs mother. She arrives and they both stare at Joes corpse.
Just then the camera follows a man going by the window.

He merrily walks along to the bank and deposits a large sum of money. He then goes home
and is welcomed by his loving family

NARRATOR
The Farringtons are an average family. I appreciate them
They live as i say they should. They shall reap the benefits of my
conformity.

Just then it is revealed that the narrator is actually a homeless man preaching to himself...

HOMELESS MAN
If there ever was a more perfect society, it cannot be better than I.
Freedom fuels the greed. man fuels the fre.....(mumbles off)

The homeless man walks away into a dark alley..

Trainspotting
Hey there - I originally joined this community under the name edgar. I'm using this other username - overly_dramatic - as a kind of online dramaturg's notebook for a production of 'Trainspotting' that I'm currently directing for the University of Canterbury Drama Society in Chrsitchurch, New Zealand. If you're at all interested in what I'm up to, feel free to have a peek. It's fairly sparse at the moment, but it should be a bit fuller after a day or two.

Cheers,

Ophelia

10 Weeks Inbetween
So I'm thinking of producing this play that I wrote at college. Putting it on AT COLLEGE, I wrote it SOPHOMORE-JUNIOR year of high school. I have no idea how one would go about getting permission to start a journey such as this. Maybe I should go elsewhere.... the local high school.... I don't know.

I'm So Tired
I don't really know why I joined this forum; I'm not really a director. But hey, if you want me to be, I'll be the best for you (I think I got that from AI; Hey Jiggolo Joe, Whaddya know?) Anyway, yeah. Maybe I'll write stuff in UCSD. who knows. Let the creative juices flow baby!
